About Bosham
Interesting little place with the picture post-card appeal of 'Sussex by the Sea' which for centuries has captivated artists from all over.
The village green leads upwards from the waterfront to the Anglo-Saxon church dedicated to The Holy Trinity. It is a beautiful church standing in a lovely tree lined churchyard, its spire soaring to a height seen from all around the village. The inside of the church is peaceful and serene showing many relics from its historic past. In the churchyard there is an interesting war memorial and graves covering centuries. Interestingly, a tomb was discovered here over a century ago which is said to belong to King Cnut's daughter, thus evidencing further the claim that it was here that the King attempted to challenge the waves, and not at nearby Southampton.
Bosham has a sheltered harbour enjoyed by yachtsmen and other visitors. At the waterfront there is always something going on, it is a pleasant place to sit watching the sea traffic of colourful boats and majestic looking yachts. There is a busy sailing club whose headquarters are housed in an old 18th-century tide mill. Attractively situated around the harbour-side you can see old brick and tile-hung cottages, and there is a very attractive inn, an ideal place to quench your thirst on a hot summers day.
Bosham is found in a favoured setting along one of the many pretty creeks and inlets that make up Chichester Harbour, it is also an excellent place for watching a wealth of wildlife with many interesting species inhabiting the shoreline. The village, with its timeless charm makes an ideal destination for a lovely weekend or a few days exploring lovely coastal waters and quintessentially English coastal villages.
