About Lapworth
Not a great deal happens in the quiet leafy lanes of Lapworth and not much has changed over the centuries. The village has a delightful mix of ancient properties that mingle harmoniously with barn conversions and new build. The fact that Lapworth is a prosperous place is demonstrated by the substance of the properties, it is also an old village that stretches way back down the centuries. It is though an attractive village that attracts many tourists - they come to explore the beautiful surrounding Warwickshire countryside and to see Lapworth's lovely old church. The church of St. Mary has a detached battlemented tower with a steeple and the church shows some Norman remains. It has a tall nave with a clerestory of Perpendicular square-headed windows. The west Porch is of two storey's. The interior shows a carved monument of 1928 by the Sculptor, Eric Gill and there is a beautiful early 14th-century octagnol font. The church has many other treasures and is well worth a visit.
Packwood House is another showpiece belonging to Lapworth. It is a timber-framed Tudor house with additions made some 100 years later by John Fetherston. The house is set in remarkable grounds and has a superb oak floor in the Hall, an oak-floored and panelled Long Gallery and the magnificent timber roofed Great Hall was added in 1925-31. There are fine collections of needlework and tapestry.
Lapworth is within distance of historic Stratford-upon-Avon and the charming Tudor delights of Henly-in-Arden. All in all, this is a beautiful area of Warwickshire and is well worth a visit. Nearby attractions include; Baddesley Clinton and Berkswell Mill.
