Great picture, they are not easy to capture in flight. Comment by Andy Edwards(10th January 2009)They are sanderlings....calidris alba Roy. The whiteness of the head and belly confirm this, as does the shape of the tail. The only similar bird is the knot, but it flies with its' tail fanned and has different wing patterns.
