About Tongham
The interest in this village centre on its two famous landmarks. One its quaint church, built of chalk stone in the mid 19th-century, the other is the Hogs Back Hotel.
St.Paul's Church is interesting for the lovely timbers to its roof, fine lancet stained glass windows surrounding the alter, beautiful font, and for its foundation spade of 1864 which can be seen encased in glass in the church. Outside of St.Paul's is the old clock tower, the old school and a peaceful tree lined churchyard with graves and tombs.
The village is thought to have a long history as evidenced by the finding of Stone-Age relics, both the Saxons and the Romans are known to have been here.
Tongham is the home of Hogs Back Brewery. The brewery is sited at Manor Farm and is renowned for its production of fine Real Ale. It takes its name from The Hogs Back which was part of a long distance route from Cornwall to Dover, this was known as the Harrow Way.
Tongham Churchyard is the burial place of Lady Sarah Lennox, she was the niece of the famous Lady Sarah Lennox who was Mistress of King George III.
Tongham lies close to the North Downs Way, and is close to Aldershot, Farnborough and Guildford
