About Sutton Hoo
Sutton Hoo can be found amongst the marshy creeks and reedy rivers of Suffolk. It is perhaps most famous as the setting of one of Britain's most important archaeological sites.
The royal burial sites of Sutton Hoo can be found in the grounds of Tranmer House, these include the burial mounds of Anglo-Saxon Kings of East Anglia who have been discovered together with a ship of undisturbed treasure believed to date from the 7th century Wuffing Kings. The discovery includes gold and silver, together with the regalia worn by a warrior-king of the period embellished with cloisonné and gold.
In the exhibition hall there is a presentation of finds from the site and the history of the early English. A new addition for the season is the Great Gold Buckle of the 7th century on loan from the British Museum.
The award winning visitor facilities include a gift shop selling a range of jewellery based on Sutton Hoo artefacts, plant sales, and a restaurant.
This is a truly fascinating atmospheric site which attracts and pleases people of all ages.
