Is there anyone out there that can answer some questions?

What are the ruins in the churchyard? How old is the town sign with the two figures on it?

Does anyone have historical photos of Beccles?

I will come and visit but am currently in Wigan! Anne

Hi Anne; sorry I can't answer your questions off hand, but to add Lord Horatio Nelson's parents married in the church there.

Hi Anne, I live near Beccles, it is a lovely little market town, and as regards to the church, the tower is at the wrong place because of the cliff, you can find out all about Beccles by just typing in Beccles on the web it has the history etc, enjoy your visit.

Thanks Peggy & Paul, I have been to Beccles 20+ years ago and hope to be able to return later this year. I am writing a novel in which a group visit Beccles on the train from Yarmouth in the 1860s. I know there was a train running through Belton and Aldeby and the line closed in 1959. Did it use the station that is there today?

Peggy I've just realised that many of the Beccles pictures on this site are yours. Thanks for posting! One of them is of the village sign. Do you know how old the sign is?

Peggy I've discovered that the sign was first there in1936, according to the town guide, so it wouldn't be there for my group to look at!

Thank you for offering to find out.
