Alton Station, Staffordshire

The old station is on a disused section of the Churnet Valley line from Macclesfield to Uttoxeter. In its lifetime the station was much used by day trippers to Alton Towers. The station was closed in 1964 as part of Dr Beeching's attempts to cut the cost of the railways, but it is now restored and converted to a comfortable holiday home, run by the Landmark Trust.
