About Norton in the Moors
Norton-in-the-Moors is exactly what its name implies - it is an old village set on the side of a windswept hill with far reaching views over rolling countryside towards the Peak District. It is seemingly wedged between two waterways, the waters of the Trent and those of the old canal.
Above its winding streets crammed with Victorian and Edwardian cottages, its historic village church peers across the moorland. St.Bartholomew's is a handsome church building of 1738, it is built of brick with a square tower and stands on the spot of an earlier church. It has a sloping churchyard where visitors can see old gravestones and tombs from past centuries.
The village has shops, pubs and all the usual village amenities. It is perfectly placed for exploring the historic "Pottery" towns, or the Peak District National Park.
