About Tickhill
This is a pleasant, somewhat sprawling village lying in rural countryside a short distance from the market town of Maltby. Its landscape is an ancient one, stretching back to when it was gifted by William I to Roger de Busli in 1066.
It is a surprisingly busy little place with much to capture the eye. The parish church dedicated to St.Mary is without doubt the village's most historic building, it dates from the 15th century and has many beautiful features. The buttercross at the centre of the village is noteworthy, at Christmas this forms the centrepiece for Christmas Eve carols led by the local band of the Salvation Army. There is also a pretty duck pond and what remains of an 11th century earthwork motte and bailey castle.
Visitors will enjoy a fine shopping experience, there is a shopping arcade as well as shops lining the bustling High Street. Amongst the shops is a choice gift shop, dress shops, kitchenware and travel agents. There is also the usual food stores, one which still remains a family run business!
Apart from having plenty to admire the village offers a host of places to relax in, these include cafe's, restaurants and several friendly pubs and inns.
Tickhill would make a delightful destination for anyone wishing to explore South Yorkshire, it is in close proximity to Rotherham and Doncaster where you will find museums telling you of the history and heritage of the region, and is surrounded by lovely old hamlets hidden down leafy lanes.
