About Swalcliffe

Swalcliffe is a picturesque village and civil parish about 5 miles (8 km) west of Banbury in Oxfordshire.

The village has some lovely period cottages, including thatched cottages, and an Anglo-Saxon church that was rebuilt in the 12th and 14th centuries, which is a Grade I listed building. Swalcliffe Manor House has a 13th century service wing and is Grade I listed.

Another standout building in Swalcliffe is Swalcliffe Tithe Barn - An almost completely intact medieval timber half-cruck roof tithe barn considered the finest medieval tithe barn in Oxfordshire and one of the finest in England. It is also a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

There is an Iron Age hillfort on Madmarston Hill 3/4 mile northeast of the village, and the site of a Roman villa at Swalcliffe Lea. The hillfort is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
