I once battled in my narrow-boat upstream under that bridge against a very strong flow. It was in the winter and I had to spend a month waiting for lock repairs downstream and Goring was a good place to moor and wait.

An interesting anecdote, Patrick, and I hope you enjoyed your enforced stay at Goring. There are some good pubs if you need to while away the time, my favourite being the 'John Barleycorn'
