Pictures of Beckley
About Beckley
A village set at the fringe of Ot Moor, it is renowned for its magnificent medieval church which is a glorious treasure chest of the ancient and historic. It has wall paintings, rare 14th-century glass and a tub font which is thought to be of Saxon origin. It is a splendid church to view, and to tarry for a few moments of quiet reflection.
In the centre of this friendly village you can admire cottages from the 16th to 18th-centuries. There are Victorian houses, and the Royal Sun dates from the reign of Charles II. On wandering around you could be forgiven for thinking you have been here before, for the streets and cottages of Beckley were featured in an episode of Midsomer Murders.
At one time the old Roman road north from Dorchester ran through the village, this is now a narrow lane used only by walkers. The village lies in spacious countryside within a short distance of the River Ray where there is boating and fishing. There is easy access to the historic buildings, and famous spires of the beautiful City of Oxford.
