About Westerdale

Nestling in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, Westerdale affords the visitor wonderful views over the surrounding dales. It provides an excellent base from which to explore "Heartbeat" country of television fame, and to soak up the atmosphere of a traditional dales village.

Recreation in this beautiful area consists mainly of fishing, walking and riding. The undulating countryside is awesome in its sheer splendour and tranquillity, it is peace and perfection everywhere. Very little disturbs this atmosphere of calm save for the chatter of wildlife species and for the sweet sound of song-birds. For the walker and naturalist this pretty region is indeed a paradise on earth. So much to explore, so much to absorb and all amongst a scenic beauty that is simply overwhelming.

There is a pub and restaurant within easy reach, the famed Cleveland Way is on the doorstep and for those willing to travel a little further there is the wild beauty of the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast, with the golden sands of Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby's famous harbour.

The Moors Centre lies at nearby Danby and at Great Ayton visitors can see the monument dedicated to Captain Cook.
