About Malton

Any fan of the 'sport of kings' will have heard of Malton. This place is famous for fine thoroughbred horses and some of the greatest trainers have stables near here. Race horses have galloped Langton Wold for centuries. Horses in training provide a fine spectacle for locals and visitors alike.

The softly rolling countryside around here is iterspersed with farmland, Malton has a strong farming community and many gracious farmhouses and old cottages can be seen in the leafy lanes outside the town.

Malton, stands on the site of an old roman fort and in the town museum you can see many roman objects that have been discovered both in the town and in nearby countryside.

Malton offers good shopping, and a variety of excellent pubs and inns. In open countryside to the west of the town you will find the great country estate of Castle Howard. This is the largest Historic house in Yorkshire and has been the setting for many famous films and television saga's
