About Crakehall Water Mill
Hidden in the exquisite countryside of the lower regions of the Dales, Crakehall Water Mill must be one of the most photographed places of the Yorkshire Dales. The mill is driven by the water of Crakehall Beck, it is fully operative and produces flour in the traditional method.
The village itself is a quintessential Yorkshire village with a 5 acre village green dominated by limes and sycamore's, and surrounded by a ribbon of sturdy Yorkshire cottages, some dating to the middle of the 18th-century. There is also a pleasant village inn which extends a friendly welcome to visitors.
This is the countryside made famous by James Herriot and as you would expect there are many spectacular views of the surrounding area. Two of the best views in the village are of the weir and the ancient three arched bridge spanning Crakehall Beck.
Crakehall lies between the rivers Ure and Swale. Being on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales it offers visitors fine walking country in magnificent surroundings.
Nearby attractions include Thorpe Perrow Arboretum, Bedale where there is a museum, and the lovely old town of Northalleton.
