About Keld
Keld is a wonderfully scenic area at the head of Swalesdale. It is a lonely landscape with a small hamlet of stone cottages and outlying farms. It lies at the crossing point for both the Pennine Way and the Coast to Coast Walk, thus it of great appeal to walkers, hikers and ramblers.
On the River Swale which flows at the edge of Keld, visitors can see a series of four waterfalls thundering through a spectacular limestone gorge. There are also some lovely wooded areas.
The hamlet has no shop, nor does it have a pub, but it is a grand area for walking or relaxing. There is a choice of accommodation in the region which includes scattered bed and breakfast houses and holiday cottages.
Keld lies between High Seat (710 ft.) and Rogan's Seat (672 ft.). A short distance away if the famous Buttertubs Pass, a scenic route, ending with the dramatic waterfall known as Hardrow Force.
The nearest large town is the lovely old market town of Hawes where you will find a museum and the closeby National Park Centre.
