About Ingleton

This is one of the Yorkshire Dales most fascinating areas. Ingleton thrives as a centre for those who take pleasure in exploring the vast underworld to be discovered beneath the limestone hills of this glorious scenic region. The village is surrounded by a honeycomb of caves, some of which are accessible only to experienced potholers. It is also surrounded by some of Yorkshire's finest scenery with endless vista's of mountains threaded with countless, sparkling waterfalls.

White Scar show-caves, with their magnificent stalactites, stalagmites, underground river and lake, are a noted tourist attraction and are especially beautiful. For those who prefer to stay above ground there is the challenging heights of Whernside (2,419ft) and the peaks of Ingleborough and Penyghent, together these peaks, so matchless in beauty, form some of the most formidable for walkers and climbers in the Dales. A gentler walk can be taken through lovely woodland gorges to see waterfalls in a dainty silvery slither which rapidly becomes a foaming torrent as the water plunges over rocks into the valley below.

The area attracts archaeologists who come to explore the rich patchwork of geological and archaeological sites spread across the region which is crossed by the Craven Fault.

There are many wonderful places to visit in the peaceful Yorkshire Dales, it is not just a holiday destination for climbers and walkers but an area of wild, magnificent beauty whose perfect tranquillity has immense appeal for everyone.

Ingleton, backed by the drama of Ingleborough, makes an ideal choice from which to explore beautiful countryside, see the famous Ribblehead Viaduct on the Settle - Carlisle railway route and visit White Scar, the longest show-cave in England. There are pubs, village shops and a range of holiday accommodation to suit all tastes. Best of all, there is a blessed peace and serenity, hard to find in any other place.
