Pictures of Barton upon Humber*Stay in London from just £10 per night!!* ![]() Submitted by Lincolnian(3rd August 2007)Humber Bridge from the South Shore When built the Humber Bridge, linking the counties of Lincolnshire on the south bank & Yorkshire on the north bank, was the longest single span suspension bridge in the world although it is now ranked the 4th longest. Constructions took 8 years with the bridge opening to traffic in 1981, some 4 years later than originally envisaged. The construction used almost 500,000 tonnes of concrete and almost 45,000 miles of wire. The deck comprising of 124 separate units, weighing some 16,500 tonnes, was floated upstream section by section prior to being lifted into place. The length of deck between the main piers, which are over 155 meters high, is 1,410 meters and total length between anchorage points 2,220 meters.
