Leicester UK 1879 bridge due for demolition

Leicester railway bridge built 1879 due to be demolished Oct 5th 2009. An important landmark and historic feature will sadly be gone if Leicester City council have their way. It will cost the same to demolish it as to restore so money is no argument but we are individuals fighting against the might of a Council. England should keep its historic buildings, architecture and heritage for this generation and the next. We don't need another boring modern building

Good on you Mark - the powers that be would destroy all our local landmarks if we let them. Just a suggestion - why don't you start a thread in the Pictures of England forum.

Thanks steph. The truth is our council do not appreciate anything historic at all. They like all new construction and shiny modern things. Places like America have lots of new and nothing historic. History is worth keeping I feel.

Same here Mark - I have been fighting to keep a local landmark called Saltwells House. Good luck with it all!
