Is the Tolkien trail named after JRR Tolkien? Another good reason to come up to Lancashire on my next visit. Lovely picture Sue.

Yes Sue JRR Tolkien visited this area frequently in the 1940's when his eldest son John was studying for the priesthood at Stoneyhurst College. Many of the areas around Hurst Green are based on places mentioned in The Lord of The Rings book. This Trail is where he wandered while writing his book, and so the walk is named after him.
