About Hest Bank
Until the 19th-century, the regular route to and from the distant Lake District. It was a lonely journey, fraught with the terror of shifting sands and perilous river estuaries to cross. Intriguing events took place, and stories are told of guides abandoning travellers unable to pay for their services. In our peaceful times, the view from Hest Bank to the lofty mountains of the Lake District National Park, remains singularly spectacular, the lovely distant scenery is one of the joys of Morecambe Bay. The other is Morecambe's 4 mile long promenade, which is close to Hest Bank.
Hest Bank is backed by a rural open landscape, there is a closeby RSPB site and sands run in the direction of Bolton-le-Sands and Morecambe. The ancient walk across the sands to Kents Bank is still navigable at times but should not be undertaken unless accompanied by an experienced guide. There is lots going on in this pleasant area and the resort caters for boaters and those who enjoy fishing. Hest Bank makes an interesting alternative to crowded Morecambe, it is ideal as a base for touring coast and the old cotton towns of Lancashire.
