Description

Beacon Fell Country Park, Lancashire

Beacon Fell is situated on the edge of the Forest of Bowland and has been a Country Park since 1970. The park is popular with visitors, and this is an example of one of its well kept paths which pass through mainly coniferous woodlands. Although it is only 266 metres above sea level, the fell has extensive views over the Fylde coast, Morecambe Bay, and (according to the trig point on the summit) even the Isle of Man. An extremely clear day (and possibly a trip to Specsavers) might be needed for this, as the island is over 70 miles away! This high visibility made the fell an ideal spot for a warning beacon, and it was part of a chain of beacons used to warn of the approach of the Spanish Armada in 1588.

Lovely shot David, and surprisingly you don't need to be too high to see the IOM, but good weather and Specsavers does help!!
