A picture of Mereworth

This is the monument to Charles Davis Lucas the first winner of the Victoria Cross. Awarded for his bravery on 21.06.1854 when he threw a live shell from the deck of HMS Hecla, during the 1st Russian War. He is buried in Mereworth Church Graveyard (Kent). Born 19.02.1834 Died 07.08.1914.
