About Birchington

This attractive, residential seaside town is an ideal place for a jolly family holiday. It is situated in what is known as 'The Garden of England' on the north Kent coast along which there is a ribbon of lively towns, lovely sands and an azure blue sea.

Birchington lies between Reculver and Westgate-on-Sea, it is a smallish town with a fine sandy bay where low tide reveals a multitude of pools, ideal for shrimping and searching out prawns. Boating has become a popular past-time along most parts of the Kentish coast. Boats can be hired and sea fishing trips can be arranged.

This is a pleasant place to relax, enjoy sightseeing, and best of all benefit from the bracing, fresh sea air Quex House offers a fascinating museum of over 500 stuffed animals shown to best advantage in life-like settings of Africa and Asia. Interestingly, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, co-founder of the pre-Raphaelite movement is buried in the churchyard of All Saints Church.

There are a few pleasing shops, nice pubs and inns, good restaurants and pleasant walks. Several towns are within easy driving distance, most notably - Broadstairs where Charles Dickens was a frequent visitor, Canterbury with its magnificent Cathedral, and the lively resorts of Margate and Ramsgate.
