About Allington
Allington is in an attractive part of Maidstone. It lies in a lovely riverside location and has at its heart a castle originally built in the 11th century. Apart from the castle the village is almost entirely modern with an equally modern church. This is the second church to be built on this spot, it is dedicated to St. Nicholas and contains furnishings once used in St. Lawrence's church which closed in 1969.
Visitors are able to enjoy pleasant riverside walks and see some of the local river wildlife. The castle is now owned by a Carmelite Order, and is used only as a retreat and conference centre.
The North Downs Way is easily accessible from the village, the town of Aylesford lies to the north and to the south is Maidstone, with its historic properties, excellent hotels, shops and museum.
