About St Albans Cathedral and Abbey Church
Dominating the city skyline on every main approach, the magnificent Abbey Church is a former Norman Abbey Church set in the center of the city.
It overlooks Verulamium Park and was built around 1080 from recycled roman bricks taken from the ruins of Verulamium, the ancient roman city.
It was built on the site of the execution of Alban, Britains first Christian Martyr. Best known for the shrine of St Alban which attracted
pilgrims from afar and contributed to the growth of the city.
