About Brent Pelham
Brent Pelham can be found mid-way between the town of Buntingford and the village of Newport. It lies amongst a cluster of little villages, with two others bearing the name of Pelham, these being Ferneux and Stocking Pelham.
The village is often referred to as "Burnt Pelham" owing to the demise of the village following a fire in the 12th century. It is mostly a rural village with farms and cottage to see in its meandering leafy lanes. Being the home of the Puckeridge Hunt, its lanes often ring to the clatter of horses hoofs, and scampering hounds.
For visitors, the most impressive sight in the village is St. Mary's Church, although heavily restored the church still has many interesting focal points including an unusual black marble tomb of the 13th century.
Bishop Stortford is the nearest large town, this has excellent shopping as well as plenty of inns and restaurants for refreshment, it also has a museum where visitors may learn much about the region, its history and heritage.
Brent Pelham is a pleasant place to amble around, it would also make a quiet place to stay for a few days, or to use for an overnight stop before catching a flight from Stanstead Airport.
