Description

St Mary's Church, Battersea

This pretty church, which looks as though it belongs in New England, stands on the south bank of the Thames at Battersea. It was opened in 1777. Five years later, William Blake was married there. The neo-classical portico at the front of the church was built so that folk arriving by carriage could be set down under cover.

I am sure friends of ours got married in that church way back in the late 60's! Thanks for the memories!
