About Westcliff-on-Sea
This is a pleasant seaside resort close to Southend-on-Sea. It offers visitors a quieter time than its neighbour, but is within easy reach of fun and frivolity if that is what you are seeking.
The coast along this stretch of Essex beaches may be somewhat urbanised, but it remains full of surprises with reminders of the times when smugglers would stealthily enter the creeks between the mudflats to distribute their illicit cargoes at local inns.
Westcliff-on-Sea has a pretty esplanade with delightful gardens for pleasant after dinner strolls. It also has a railway station, a good town centre with plenty of shops, restaurants, theatres, pubs and beaches. There is an abundance of hotels, friendly bed and breakfast homes, and a variety of other holiday accommodation.
The area offers good boating, fishing, and a nearby wildfowl sanctuary.
