Description

Rye's famous Mermaid Inn 1986

One of England's oldest Inns, and Rye's largest medieval building with Norman cellars from 1156. The Inn was rebuilt in 1420. Includes secret tunnels and resident ghosts. The notorious Hawkhurst gang of smugglers used this Inn as their Headquarters. This is a view from the car park at the rear of the building

How come , the ghosts always have their day off , when I visit their places of abode ? Never saw one there , even after three pints .
