Pictures of Shillingstone*Stay in London from just £10 per night!!* ![]() Submitted by Graham Rains(30th April 2008)Shillingstone in Dorset Looking north over Shillingstone, from The Wessex Ridgeway, shillingstone Hill. The village is medium-sized with a population of about 800. Its nearest neighbouring villages are Okeford Fitzpaine, 1 mile west and Child Okeford, 1 mile northeast. There are 2 'hamlets' nearby, Hammoon and Fiddleford. The nearest town is Sturminster Newton, 3.5 miles north. The villages of Stourpaine and Durweston are situated 3 miles southeast and the town of Blandford Forum 6 miles southeast. The North Dorset trailway runs between the village and the river Stour, crossing The Wessex Ridgeway just south of the village. The iron age and Roman forts of Hambledon Hill and Hod Hill overlook the village to the east. Shillingstone and Blandford forests rise up to the west. These are both part of the Dorset AONB areas which make Shillingstone a popular base for Walkers, Cyclists and Horse Riders.
