About Hurn
This is a pretty Dorset village with pleasant period buildings from the 18th-century. One of its most attractive buildings being Hurn Court which is now carved into apartments but was once the home of the 3rd Earl of Malmsbury. The village lies a few miles from the beautiful Dorset World Heritage Coast in an area dominated by the rivers Stour and Avon, both making their final dash for the sea.
Village amenities include the usual general stores and a rather nice restaurant and public house developed from the local redundant railway station - an atmospheric railway carriage forms one of the dining rooms.
Christchurch Motor Museum, one of Dorset's leading attractions can be found here, it has a wonderful collection of vintage vehicles evocative of a by-gone age, that will be of interest to everyone. The Alice in Wonderland Family Park with its superb maze, is also located here. Apart from the maze, the park has a pretty herb garden and lovely animals. It is a friendly park that offers jolly hours of fun for every member of the family.
There are pleasant riverside walks along the River Stour and the River Avon and some lovely wooded areas which will appeal to bird-watchers.
Hurn is a lively and busy place which would make a pleasant base from which to explore the charms of picturesque Dorset villages and the coast.
