About Bampton
Bampton is a pleasant little Market town situated at the junction of the Rivers Batherm and Exe. It is particularly noted for it's Pony fair held each October when ponies that have been culled from the wild herds that roam on the moor, are sold.
The town has an interesting parish church which was built in the year 1300. The interior has effects dating from the 16th-century and these include a pulpit and an intricate carved rood and tower screen. A north aisle was added when the church was rebuilt in the 15th-century.
Bampton, is beautifully set in rich open countryside, it is in close proximity to Oakfordbridge, Exebridge and Dulverton, Wimbleball Reservoir is close-by, so too, are the picturesque Brendon Hills. This is glorious countryside, it is a joy to visit at any time of year.
