About Aston-on-Trent
This attractive residential village nestles in spacious countryside close to the banks of the Trent and Mersey Canal. It is a lively place with a pleasant atmosphere and interesting properties set around its large green where a colourful village sign welcomes you to the village.
Its church of All Saints has been a place of worship for many hundreds of years. There remains some Saxon masonry and Saxon carving, in fact this church is probably unique in that it shows many styles of English church architecture from the medieval period. Its Norman west tower has graceful pinnacles and is topped with battlements from the 17th-century. The church possesses some interesting relics from the past these include a rare bassoon as well as brasses, statues and monuments.
Visitors to Aston can take pleasure strolling around taking a peep at pleasant buildings which include some timber frame black and white, visit the warmly welcoming White Hart village pub and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Trent and Mersey Canal. The canal banks offer quiet water-meadows, some with grazing cattle, others reeded offering a habitat for local wildlife. The village has peaceful leafy lanes that are best explored on foot so that you can delight at hedgerows full of wild plants and winter berries.
The village is not far from the famous Donnington Park racing circuit with its nearby racing museum, and is within easy reach of some of the interesting towns of the Potteries. Derby offers a wealth of interest including a fine cathedral, museum and an excellent range of shopping facilities. There is a good range of accommodation for those wishing to stay a while to explore all this pleasing part of Derbyshire has to offer.
