About Patterdale
The village of Patterdale is a well known vantage point at the head of Ulleswater, close to Brotherswater. Visitors usually arrive via the great height of the Kirkstone Pass which lies to the south of Patterdale, once here they find it an idyllic place beside the lake hemmed in by mountains on all sides.
Views include the Helvellyn range in the north, Place Fell which rises to a steep 2,145 feet above the village, and the more gentle slopes below St.Sunday Crag. The village of Glenridding can be reached along the western shore of Ulleswater.
A legend exists that St.Patrick, patron saint of Ireland preached in Patterdale - the local parish church is dedicated to him.
This village is in an outstanding location between the north and south lakes of Lakeland, making it a popular holiday destination and an ideal place to stay to explore all this fascinating landscape, left from the melting of the Ice-Age has to offer.
