Exploring the most Picturesque & Historic parts of England
Ruskin's View, Kirkby Lonsdale. The view over the River Lune from Church Brow, Kirkby Lonsdale, looking over the countryside of the Yorkshire Dales. The artist John Ruskin said of this area, 'I do not know in all my own country, still less in France or Italy, a place more naturally divine'. Following publication of this remark in 1875 the viewpoint became known as 'Ruskin's View'. The same name has also been given to J.M.W.Turner's watercolour of this scene.
