About Glenridding
Glenridding lies in a beautiful area on the south-west side of Ullswater. It has several old stone properties some of which may have belonged to the families of miners working in the local mines during the 18th and 19th centuries.
One of the most famous sights of this area lies close to Glenridding, this is the magnificent Aira Force which tumbles between huge boulders and bracken, to fall beneath a tiny bridge. These falls are arguably the most beautiful in the whole of the Lake District's magical landscape.
The terrain around Glenridding is deep-sided woodland, grassy fells, glittering tarns, and here and there walkers will come across old mine workings.
In the village visitors will find attractive cottages and houses, shops, pubs, hotels, a leisure club and restaurants. Glenridding has a pleasant atmosphere and is ideal for walking, sailing, fishing, rock and fell climbing.
For anyone wishing to spend time exploring the wider landscape this attractive Lakeland village makes an ideal base from which to discover the Eden Valley, Helvellyn, and both the Solway and South Cumbria coasts.
