About Bassenthwaite

This is the most northerly of all the lakes, it resembles beaten silver nestling between the sun dappled heights of soaring fells and mountains. Almost at its shores are Barf, Greystones, Lord's Seat, Broom Fell and Ling Fell.

At around 4 miles long Bassenthwaite is one of the smaller lakes and interestingly is the only one to be called a lake instead of a "water" or "mere". The surrounding scenery has an awesome appeal with dramatic views across wild forestry towards Ullock Pike.

Since early in the 19th-century, the lakes have been the haunt of walkers who find at Bassenthwaite a peace and tranquillity lost long ago by other more popular Lakeland waters
