About Cuckoo's Nest

The Cuckoo's Nest is a delightful self-catering cottage, as charming as it sounds and a perfect Ambleside hideaway for couples, yet located in the heart of the Lake District village of Ambleside.
Awarded 5 stars by Visit England in recognition of its excellent overall quality, the cottage is prettily furnished and offers everything you’ll need for a relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable break in the Lake District. Situated in the very centre of Ambleside, the cottage is tucked next to Smallwood House Hotel and accessed from the hotel’s private car park, with a dedicated parking space for the cottage. The cottage is very private and has a lovely romantic atmosphere inside.
This cosy cottage covers two floors and comprises a well equipped kitchen/dining area (including dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, kettle and toaster), a comfortable lounge with TV, DVD and video player, bathroom with shower and spa bath and one double bedroom. There is gas central heating throughout and an electric fire in the lounge, ideal for autumn and winter or even those cooler summer days. For that extra bit of luxury both the kitchen and the bathroom also have lovely, cosy under-floor heating independent of the central heating.
Additional information:
The cottage owners, Christine and Anthony Harrison, are on hand (next door at Smallwood House Hotel) to welcome you and to help you make the most of your stay if needed. Ambleside is a bustling and vibrant small market town offering a good selection of specialist shops and great quality restaurants, bars and cafes, so need for cooking if you don’t want to. Cuckoo’s Nest provides a perfect location for exploring the wider Lake District or enjoying low or high level walks right from the doorstep.
Guests at the Cuckoo’s Nest have use of the luxury spa and swimming pool at a hotel just a few minutes walk away. Secure cycle storage is available if you would like to bring your own bicycle. There is complimentary wifi and all prices include gas, electricity, towels and bed linen.
Smallwood House is our sister property next door, and offers 12 stylish and comfortable en-suite bedrooms and is perfect for a B&B stay for individuals, couples and groups. Guests at Cuckoo’s Nest are welcome to book breakfast at Smallwood House each day for a small additional charge.
Short breaks of 3 or 4 nights are available at certain times of year. Please ask us for details.
