About Durham Castle
Durham Castle is another one of Durham's magnificent buildings. It was founded in 1072 and such was the impregnability of the site that Durham was one of the few towns in the county that was never captured by the Scots. The castle is not open to the public all year round as it is now used as a hall of residents for the students of Durham university.
