About The Castle

On returning from a raid into Scotland, Robert Curthose, eldest son of William the Conqueror built a castle calling it his `New Castle'. This is how the city of Newcastle originally got its name. The original wooden 'New Castle' was replaced by a stone building in the 12th century. It was one of the most important medieval castles in England
