Comment by Julie Lee(3rd October 2009)I walk a local quarry, it's a wonderful haven for wildlife, many things are reborn, last week just 5mins laying in the grass and photos of a cmlong insect blown up on the computer turns up to be something I cant identify, though I've heard of a site identifying species via the Open University and an ordinary beetle but when shot up close reveals initial black body as multicoloured under the lens. A lot of people walk past plantlife without knowing that if they just sat beside it for a few minutes all sorts of interesting things would appear Comment by Julie Lee(3rd October 2009)I took to walking when people became too difficult for me, too nosy. And I've found I prefer it. I prefer being in the countryside alone (or occas with those I trust) but being alone there is wonderful. My advice: take waterproofs, not just handy for the odd shower, also less potential for snagging if someone unwanted appears and you might have to lose them crawling through undergrowth, carry protection, you never know what animals you might encounter, if you smoke, as I do, take your butts home with you, be country aware. If you need to pee, do it in places you've already scouted, less chance of someone sneaking up on you with trousers round your ankles! No need to be frightened of cows/bulls in fields just give them a wide berth, they're just as nervous, but they're bigger animals than you, treat all the ones with horns as if they're bulls! You cant always see the undercarriage! Slide down hills on your bottom, less chance of tripping and ruining future walking, vary your route, you never know who's watched (snoops are the worst)ignore all the cowards who advise against walking, if you want to do it, do it, you got one life and thousands climb into cars everyday not realising the danger in their lives. Take water and something to snack on if you think you'll be away a time. Turn off your mobile, you don't want to get a call if your hiding in undergrowth! Plus its distracting when photographing. Last week the fox I saw 6months ago appeared close enough for me to photograph on full zoom and came down the hill towards me, I know that foxes are in gardens sometimes, but it still felt special. I love animals, they have no hidden agenda, besides the desire for food, shelter and sex Add a comment...Please login to make a comment on this picture © 2001-2009 Pictures of England.com - All rights reserved Terms & Conditions - Free Pictures Please support this site |
