About St Just
Attractive town dominated by its historic parish church, superb town clock and the handsome building of the Wellington Hotel overlooking the market square.
The town, which is situated on the scenic coastal road between Land's End and St. Ives is the most westerly town in mainland Britain. It is noted as an historic mining town and much remains of its rich tin and copper mining heritage, but the mining day's are well and truly over and today, St. Just is a charming resort town, ideal for anyone interested in antiquities, natural history and cliff walking. Walks include wonderful coastal hikes towards picturesque Whitesand Bay, Sennen Cove and Lands End, or in the opposite direction the walker takes in Kenidjack Mine, Levant Steam Engine and the Geevor Tin Mines before reaching Pendeen and Morvah. Both routes give spectacular views of golden sands fringed by the Atlantic Ocean and opportunities to explore the regions birdlife.
At the heart of the town there are delightful shops to explore, pleasant pubs for eating and drinking, art galleries and antique centres. The 15th century parish church is well worth a look, and so is Plen-an-Guare, found at the side of the square - this is a circular amphitheatre where plays and concerts are performed.
The town plays host for several events and festivals, the most popular being the Lafrowda Festival held over a week each July. This is a celebration of music and dance, with concerts, street processions and colourful stalls. On the final day (Lafrowda Day) the centre of the town is closed to traffic.
St. Just, offers a superb location for an interesting and relaxing holiday. It has a hinterland of charming Cornish countryside where you will find lots of absorbing attractions, but best of all will be the sight of the crystal clear Atlantic tumbling over the sands.
For those wishing to stay there are excellent inns, restaurants, hotels, bed and breakfast, guest houses, and plenty of self catering accommodation.
