About Penryn

Penryn is one of Cornwall's most ancient town's, first appearing in the Doomsday book under the name Trelivel, until in 1216 when the Bishop of Exeter founded the town and named it Penryn.
During medieval times, the Cornish town of Penryn was an important harbour, exporting tin and granite across the globe.

Today, the town has been designated as an important conservation area and for good reason, with many fine old buildings dotted throughout dating from Tudor, Jacobean and Georgian times, as it has managed to retain large amounts of its ancient heritage.

You will find a museum housed in Penryn's old Market House, which is free admission.

Penryn Local legends include that of a group of Headless horses dragging a ghostly coach through the streets at night, around Christmas time every year. If people who witness this ghostly apparition do not avert their eyes in time, they will be dragged away to face eternal damnation.
