About Cleveland

Cleveland is a small county in the North East of England, dominated by the River Tees and the North Sea. It was once part of the North Riding of Yorkshire until that was divided up in 1974.

The administrative headquarters of the county of Cleveland is the town of Middlesbrough, with Stockton on Tees being another major town and the county is often referred to as 'Teeside' due to its domination by the River Tees. Other towns include Billingham and Hartlepool, Redcar, which boasts the largest steel and chemical complex in Europe, relying on the local available potash and gas. (add/update description)
