About Reach
Owing to Stone-Age flints and other relics found in the surrounding countryside, Reach lays claim to being the district's oldest settlement. There is little doubt it is an old area, for it was granted a charter by King John giving the right to choose their own king at a yearly fair.
The village lies in beautiful fen countryside and is bordered by several rivers including the River Cam and the New River. It is an area rich in wildlife with the Wicken Fen Wildlife Park owned by the National Trust being just a short distance away. The village also gives easy access to the Devil's Ditch and the famous Newmarket racecourse is within easy driving distance.
As you would suspect in an area with so many lovely rivers, boating an watersports are a popular past-time. Boats can be hired and river trips are available. Fishing, too is a popular sport, there are many lonely spots along the quiet river banks where you can put up your rod and idly watch the world go by.
Cambridge is a beautiful county, it has historical connections to the Romans, Saxons and Danish marauders, it is an historical treasure chest of gracious market towns and tranquil villages crammed with churches, merchant houses and picturesque cottages.
Reach is ideally situated to explore Burwell, Wicken, Swaffam Prior and Newmarket.
